For the third consecutive year, S3 to S6 pupils took part in an exciting and educational fieldtrip to Stratford-upon-Avon with the English department. The main purpose is to give pupils greater exposure to the life, work and historical context of the world’s greatest writer, William Shakespeare.

Pupils travelled overnight by coach, spent two nights in a local hotel, two days enjoying historical sightseeing, and two evenings watching Shakespeare’s plays performed by the world-famous Royal Shakespeare Company.

As ever, the open-top bus tour was exhilarating, Anne Hathaway’s cottage was beautiful, and our barge tour of the Avon was serene. The pupils were delighted with the performances of Midsummer Night’s Dream (featuring “That lassie from Two Pints of Lager…”) and The Taming of the Shrew.

Our trip finished with a day at Alton Towers before our coach journey north, and even a bout of torrential afternoon rain failed to dampen the pupils’ enthusiasm for the rollercoasters.

The 2009 Trip is already booked, and we’re pleased to see some of the same pupils returning for a second time, as well as many new participants from this year’s S3 cohort. Julius Caesar and The Winter’s Tale await.
